ValedaAssembled bit by bit. Anatomically correct plastic replicas of internal organs, lighted by tiny bulbs. Six and a quarter miles of wire. She stands on a revolving pedestal in an auditorium at the Kansas Learning Center for Health, where thousands of visitors have heard her describe the human body.
The Kansas Learning Center for Health offers health education programs for students in both Field Trip and Outreach formats. Both formats adhere to the Kansas State Science and Health Standards, emphasize tobacco and drug free living and other healthy lifestyle choices, and our prevention programs are eligible for Safe and Drug-Free Schools funding. The Learning Center also offers Professional Development Workshops for teachers and programs for adults and girl scouts. Check our calendar and make your reservations!
Field Trips: Since 1965 the Kansas Learning Center for Health has partnered with schools to provide students with tools to make healthy life choices. Programs are taught at the Learning Center in Halstead, Kansas.
Outreach: Our outreach programs for K-12 students utilize resources from across the nation and hands-on activities to excite students. Outreach programs can be scheduled for K-12.
Evaluating our programs is extremely important to our mission at the Kansas Learning Center for Health. Pre- and post- tests with students at the Center, and teacher evaluations, help us quantify the impact were making on our students. During the 2006-2007 school year, students demonstrated considerable knowledge gain in outcomes-based tests in three program topic areas. Following each program, teachers were also asked to provide feedback on program content, instructor knowledge, curriculum requirements, and student involvement.
