Programs
At the Center, programs provide schools and individuals with a convenient and cost effective way to enhance classroom curriculum by meeting or exceeding the state Next Generation Science and Health standards. Field trip programs can be scheduled to fit your needs. Please speak with our scheduler for specific information for your building.
Each program will be a total of 2 hours in length which includes; viewing of Valeda (transparent talking mannequin), Pre/Post Testing, 40-minute lesson with certified health instructor, exploration time with health exhibits and an instructor lead hands-on laboratory for the children.
Students will learn how to apply the MyPlate and the Nutrition Facts label to their everyday eating habits. They also learn the importance of balancing their food intake with their physical activity for a “Winning Combination.” During the hands-on activity, students organize and build a healthy meal while taking a look at their own eating habits.
3-LS3-2
Students learn the route their food takes as it travels through the digestive system. The hands-on activity explores each part of this amazing system from start to finish.
4-LS1-1, MS-LS1-3
Students learn the parts and functions of the heart. Through various media, students observe heartbeats, blood flow, blood cells, and how diet and exercise can affect their heart. During the hands-on activity, students use a team approach to build a circulatory system.
4-LS1-1, MS-LS1-3
Students will discover the consequences of smoking tobacco while exploring the respiratory system and observing preserved pigs lungs. To enhance their understanding, students will make a bottle respiratory system.
4-LS1-1, MS-LS1-3
Students learn to recognize the body changes of puberty preparing them for the physical, mental and social challenges of adolescence. Although the class is divided male/female, all students learn the male and female reproductive systems as well as proper hygiene.
MS-LS1-1
The preview program allows parents and educators the opportunity to view and ask questions about the puberty education class prior to their child attending the program. Fee: $125
This program stresses the importance of making good choices early in life regarding the gateway drugs: tobacco, alcohol, marijuana and inhalants. Activities illustrate how drugs affect all aspects of life.
